We were lucky enough to have a decent size swell hit January, we have always been blessed with waves all year around but for the middle of summer which is renowned for 4-5 foot summer swells having a 6m ground swell hit was like being in the middle of winter except for the warm weather. Paul Morgon and Brett Burcher decided to paddle into “Cow Bombie” and without anyone else around I was left to rescue plus photography, probably not the smartest of options especially when the ski decided not to start after turning it off to do a camera change, a couple of quick pushes to get it out of the impact zone and away it went and i never turned off again the whole session, I didn’t fancy a 6km swim back to shore. A couple of tow teams arrived at the backend of our session and Paul Paterson and James Catto wasted no time getting into some bombs, the ski certainly helps getting in position but I must say sitting out in the middle of the ocean watching 10 foot boards take on some decent swells is very humbling. The next day it backed off so apart from a few quick shots with the medium format from shore (looking forward to the housing arriving for this next month) it was a surf for myself, first time I have used a board over 9 foot but pretty stoked all the same to get a couple.
